Mercedes readies first Tesla rival in €10-billion attack

The rollout of the EQC this week, therefore, represented an early production look at the first mass-market electric Mercedes, in a segment that will soon see plenty of competition from up and down the autobahn.

According to Mercedes, the EQC is classed as a crossover SUV. Take for instance Mercedes-Benz, which has been teasing the release of its upcoming EQC all-electric crossover SUV.

The EQs, which stands for "electric intelligence", aren't the first pure-electric cars from the Stuttgart, Germany-based automaker. The company never hid the fact that concept was meant to preview the real deal, and indeed, it did just that. The black panel is bordered at the top with daytime running lamps.

Inside, louvered trim runs across the dashboard and the doors. Leather seats and carbon-fiber trims are available as an option. It'll also have EQ-specific rose gold accents throughout the cabin, including on the air vents.

The 80kWh battery is touted to provide a range of more than 450km, while intelligent navigation and predictive cruise control assist in effective, smart energy management. The EQC features a pair of asynchronous motors-one for each axle-and will boast 300kW (402hp) and 564lb-ft (765Nm).

Inside, the EQC is a mix of typical Mercedes-Benz interior bits and unique-to-EQ design traits.
