Former CIA Officials Oppose Trump's Security Clearance Moves

"We all agree that the president's action regarding John Brennan and the threats of similar action against other former officials has nothing to do with who should and should not hold security clearances - and everything to do with an attempt to stifle free speech", said the letter, whose signers include former Central Intelligence Agency directors who served under Presidents Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Very, very important. And I've had a tremendous response for having done that.

In an opinion piece in The New York Times, Mr Brennan said Mr Trump's decision to deny him access to classified information was a desperate attempt to end Mueller's investigation.

The president was referring to Nellie Ohr, who worked for Fusion GPS, the Democrat opposition research firm involved in producing the salacious and unverified dirty dossier during the 2016 campaign.

Trump lashed out again at Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is leading an investigation into possible collusion between his 2016 campaign and Moscow.

Trump, speaking with reporters as he was leaving the White House earlier Friday, said he concurred with the view of Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard M. Burr on the question of Brennan's statements.

"I think Bruce Ohr is a disgrace", the president said of the career Justice Department official, who conservatives believe was a conduit for anti-Trump information to reach the Federal Bureau of Investigation during and after the campaign, including the Steele dossier containing salacious and unproven allegations about Mr. Trump.

Trump sent shockwaves through the intelligence community on Wednesday when he revoked Brennan's security clearance.

Here's a look at the odds to win this year's event. "I've always enjoyed visiting and competing in Japan", he said. Hadwin was the only Canadian to play in the PGA Championship, but missed the cut at the final major of the year.

"Director Brennan's recent statements purport to know as fact that the Trump campaign colluded with a foreign power", Burr said in a Thursday statement.

The statement criticizing the White House's move is signed by top former officials who served under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

"Beyond that, this action is quite clearly a signal to other former and current officials", the former officials said, adding that the signal "is inappropriate and deeply regrettable".

In his op-ed, Brennan characterized Trump's action as "politically motivated" and said it was "an attempt to scare into silence others who might dare to challenge him".

Brennan described Trump's actions at a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki last month as treasonous.

Clapper and former CIA Director Michael Hayden have appeared on a White House list of people who may also have their security clearances revoked. "I've never respected him".

In August 2016, just two days after Brennan briefed Senator Harry Reid and other members on Russian interference in the election, the Nevada senator wrote a letter to then-FBI director James Comey, calling the FBI to investigate Trump's campaign.

The decorated military leader, who was integral in the 2011 killing of bin Laden in Pakistan, stressed that a good leader "always puts the welfare of others before himself or herself", but said that's not the case for Trump.
