The fixture list has certainly not helped the Spaniard either, pitting him against Manchester City and Chelsea in his first two competitive matches.

Arsenal open the season with a new manager for the first time in over two decades, but Unai Emery will not get an easy start to his Arsenal career as they open up with defending champions Manchester City.

Arsenal have reportedly told Danny Welbeck that he would be surplus to requirements this season under Unai Emery and have instructed his agent to find a new club for the forward.

The Italian takes his side to Huddersfield Town on Saturday where Kepa Arrizabalaga, the world's most expensive keeper at 71 million pounds (RM372 million), is set to make his debut.

He joins Lucas Digne at Everton , a player who arrived at Barcelona at the same time he did, with similar levels of success. Everton have signed Colombian defender Yerry Mina for a reported figure of about €30.25 million.

The Gunners finished 37 points behind City last season and Emery has revealed what he wants to change in order to prevent that happening again.

In the three matches between the two clubs last season, City won 9-1 on aggregate.

Arsenal's Emery will need to reverse a awful recent record for the club against City, however, if the new era in north London is not to start in disappointing fashion.

Elneny, who only signed a new deal in March, has slipped down the pecking order, with the arrivals of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi meaning Arsenal have a number of options in defensive midfield.

Elsewhere, fresh from their Championship exploits, promoted teams Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Fulham take on Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively.
