Victims Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Bombings Remembered In Lok Sabha

People mourn victims of the atomic bombings at the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 2018.

A memorial will be observed Monday in Little Rock in remembrance of the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in August 1945 at the end of World War II.

Abe said differences between the nuclear and non-nuclear states had widened, but he pledged to do more to bridge their gap.

Nuclear deterrence and nuclear umbrellas are "inherently unstable and extremely dangerous" approaches that seek to maintain global order by only generating fear in rival countries, he said, urging world leaders to negotiate in good faith to eliminate nuclear arsenals instead. The worldwide representation was the third largest on record. For the vote of the treaty text, 122 nations voted in favor while 69 nations chose not to vote - all of which were nuclear weapon states. U.S. Ambassador to Japan William F. Hagerty IV made his first appearance at the ceremony since he was sworn in for the current post in July of past year.

It's a sunny summer morning in the city of Hiroshima, Japan. I personally believe that Hiroshima has sublimated the tragedy and has made it a peace loving city, ' he said.

Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui, right, dedicates the list of the victims of atomic bombing to the cenotaph during a ceremony to mark the 73rd anniversary of the bombing at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, western Japan.

BURP ALERT - Ford to roll out buck-a-beer plan
The province is hoping brewers will get on board with the buck-a-beer plan and incentives will be offered for those who do. Even a brand like Laker, which once prided itself on its $1-a-bottle price point, is retailing at $1.95 for a 473 ml can.

The group played a key role in campaigning for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which was approved by the United Nations in July a year ago.

The 73rd anniversary comes after Pyongyang's promise of a complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula grabbed attention following the historic U.S.

"Certain countries are blatantly proclaiming self-centered nationalism and modernizing their nuclear arsenals, rekindling tensions that had eased with the end of the Cold War", Matsui said Monday, without identifying the countries.

His call however highlighted Japan's contradictory relationship with nuclear weapons. There was no expression in the mayor's speech directly asking Tokyo to sign or ratify the treaty, which requires ratification by at least 50 signatories to come into force but has been ratified by just 14 countries and regions.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the anniversary event. But he emphasized that differences are emerging among countries on how to proceed with nuclear disarmament, and stated that Japan, under the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, will "serve as a bridge between nuclear powers and non-nuclear states and lead worldwide efforts".

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in his message during the ceremony that Hiroshima's legacy is one of "resilience" and sought continued moral support from the hibakusha survivors for efforts in promoting the ban of nuclear weapons.
