Fetus discovered by crew on plane from Charlotte to NY, sources say

- A cleaning crew found a fetus in the toilet on board a plane as the aircraft sat in a hangar at LaGuardia Airport on Tuesday, according to NBC New York.

Fetus was thought to be 5 months along. But at around 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, the cleaning crew found the fetus hidden inside the toilet under sheets of toilet paper.

Law enforcement officials told WNBC the discovery was made in a bathroom of an American Airlines plane that landed at the Queens hub after leaving Charlotte Monday night. It was the Airbus A321's only flight of the day.

Just before 9 a.m., the airport tweeted about possible delays over the incident.

The Office of NYC Medical Examiner issued a statement to PIX11, saying "We're investigating what we believe to be a human fetus found deceased on an airplane. Please contact law enforcement for additional information", an American Airlines spokesman said. "We will release cause and manner of death upon determination." .

They instead turned all questions over to the Queens District Attorney's Office which is yet to make a statement.
