Apple removes Alex Jones content from iTunes, podcast platforms

Facebook said in a blog post on Monday that it was banning four of the pages belonging to Infowars founder Alex Jones for repeatedly uploading content in breach of the social network's community standards. Those taken down include War Room and The Alex Jones Show daily podcast.

The pages violated Facebook's hate speech, bullying and graphic violence policies, Facebook said, noting that since last week it had taken down material from the pages for "glorifying violence".

Of course, given how Facebook has struggled against fake news being spread on its platform, it's noteworthy that wasn't one of the reasons that Jones, a man who said the Sandy Hook shootings were faked and pushed the #Pizzagate conspiracy, was banned.

The company said Monday that more content from the pages had since been reported, and it had chose to remove them for "repeated violations of community standards and accumulating too many strikes".

"Facebook bans Infowars. Permanently".

"To all other conservative news outlets - you are next".

Spotify, which added Jones to its podcast offerings last month only to be met with widespread criticism and threats of a boycott, is also ending its relationship with Jones.

Facebook uses a "strike" system to determine if a page should be removed from its site altogether, according to the statement.

Manafort's bookkeeper testifies she knew nothing about foreign accounts
Mueller's team said the witnesses refused to testify or would refuse to answer certain questions if not given the protection. They say that hidden among those records were more than 200 wire transfers from more than 30 companies Manafort controlled.

Some applauded the companies including Sleeping Giants, a lobbying group attempting to get big tech companies to remove hateful content. Facebook does not disclose how many strikes will result in a page being unpublished.

Jones is now being sued in Texas by two Sandy Hook parents, seeking at least $1 million (£0.77 million), claiming that they have been the subject of harassment driven by his programs.

The removal of Jones' podcast from those platforms comes after Spotify deleted some episodes of the Alex Jones Show last week.

"We take reports of hate content seriously and review any podcast episode or song that is flagged by our community", a representative said Monday.

Some of Infowars notorious assertions have included claiming that 9/11 was perpetrated by "globalists" in the USA government; that the deadly mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 was a hoax; and that David Hogg, one of the students who survived the February 2018 shooting massacre in Parkland, Florida, was a paid actor.

Jones has not directly addressed the elimination of his content on these platforms, but did retweet a few people, including InfoWars employee Paul Joseph Watson, who criticized the move as an attack on free speech.

Spotify had also recently come under pressure for hosting Jones' podcasts.
