Officials say mosquito tests positive for West Nile virus

The Montgomery County Health Department will undertake pesticide spaying for mosquitoes in a specified area of Collegeville and Upper Providence Wednesday or Monday.

The state's second case of West Nile virus this year has been reported in Pearl River County, prompting health officials to remind the public of safety precautions and the symptoms. "While most infected people recover without any long-term problems, some develop a more severe infection that can lead to complications and even death - especially in those over 50 years of age".

In 2017, there were 20 human cases of West Nile virus reported in Pennsylvania.

This includes clearing standing water in gutters and other items such as tires, reducing outdoor exposure at dawn and dusk, and using insect repellant containing DEET.

While no one in dc-metro area has contracted the virus, there are confirmed reports of infected mosquitoes in Fairfax, Norfolk, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

Residents may contact the health department at 610-278-5117 if they are concerned about an area of standing water that may be breeding mosquitoes. Individuals older than 60 have the greatest risk of developing severe disease.

Sperling said that number will grow as more and more people come to realize how fundamentally Trump is attacking the idea of states' rights.

"What they'll also do is they'll continue to monitor the mosquito population until all tests produce negative results for any West Nile".

Commonly, 75% of those who contract Nile virus present no symptoms.

Headaches and fevers are the most common symptoms and can surface between a few days to a few weeks after a bite. Wear long sleeves, long trousers, and tuck clothing in.

Make sure you have good screens on your windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out. Consult a physician before using repellents on young children. If it rains, the spraying will be done during the same hours Friday.

The Trumbull Health Department has a limited quantity of mosquito dunks available for residents.
