First Stills From Star Trek: Discovery Season Two Released

During the Comic-Con panel for "Star Trek: Discovery", show co-creator and executive producer Alex Kurtzman announced the upcoming launch of a four-part miniseries titled "Star Trek: Short Treks" this fall. The connections keep on coming in Season 2, as Anson Mount has been cast as Christopher Pike, the captain that preceded Captain Kirk on the Enterprise.

During the panel, Mount confirmed that his "Number One" will be a woman, just like Majel Barrett during Star Trek: The Original Series.

The first Star Trek: Discovery season 2 trailer picks up where season 1 left off, with the USS Discovery answering the distress call of the USS Enterprise.

What's perhaps most striking about the trailer, however, is its tone, which is more upbeat and playful (much of it is set to Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away") than how the first season was promoted.

If bad things happen in threes, good news must come in pairs, as CBS All Access made two exciting reveals during its Star Trek: Discovery panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. The new season will premiere sometime in 2019 on CBS All-Access; you can see the pics below of Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham and David Benjamin Tomlinson as the Saurian Linus.

Additional episodes include one focused on Underground's Aldis Hodge as Craft, a man stranded aboard a deserted ship, a deeper exploration of Saru's (Doug Jones) backstory as Starfleet's first Kelpian and Tilly's (Mary Wiseman) unlikely friendship aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. "They'll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of 'Star Trek'".

Romijn will play the original character from the unaired pilot alongside Mount's Pike. However, the new trailer certainly looks like the show has not missed a beat.
