US President to meet Theresa May to discuss post-Brexit ties

The president and first lady will travel to Windsor on Friday afternoon to meet the Queen, before flying to Scotland to spend the weekend at Mr Trump's Turnberry golf resort.

The two leaders will hold talks the following day at Chequers, the 16-century manor house which is the prime minister's official country residence.

Speaking at a press conference following a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit in Brussels, the president said he thought the vote for Brexit was primarily due to concerns about immigration. "I like Boris Johnson, I've always liked him", said Mr Trump.

"I think they like me in the UK".

The US embassy's alert to American citizens was an unusual step, CNN reported.

Protests in London against the visit by President Donald Trump must be "peaceful and good-spirited", London mayor Sadiq Khan said on Thursday after the USA leader landed in the British capital.

Protests are expected against Trump, whose policies - including a travel ban on a number of predominantly Muslim countries, detention of child migrants on the US-Mexico border and imposition of tariffs on European Union steel and aluminium exports - have all been criticised by the UK. The balloon depicts the president as an angry orange baby, wearing a diaper and clutching a cellphone, ready to tweet.

The US president gave a brief wave to the crowd before descending the steps holding the hand of the First Lady, who wore a fitted beige dress and red belt.

A large police presence has been building up outside the palace in Oxfordshire and BBC News correspondent Duncan Kennedy said about 500-600 protesters bearing placards were demonstrating before Mr Trump's arrival.

The Metropolitan Police will be responsible for the protection and security of the U.S. president and will also try to ensure lawful protests can be staged. "And a failure to do so would leave a permanent stain on our democratic rights and freedom of speech".

She went on to critique the fit - particularly cutting words, coming from a couture designer - suggesting her dress was too loose. Rachel Marks, 19, said the duchess had also been excited about watching the game, confirming she would be tuning in this evening.

Melania Trump's spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A YouGov poll on Wednesday showed 77 percent of Britons had an unfavourable opinion of the president and just 50 percent thought his visit should go ahead.

It was during that trip to Washington that she invited him to the UK.

However, media coverage may well be dominated by footage of the "Trump baby" balloon as it soars above the iconic Houses of Parliament for a two-hour spell. There was no vote and no ban was imposed.

Along with trade and security links, 10 Downing Street said the other key areas to be discussed between Prime Minister May and President Trump included Brexit and the Middle East.

Mr and Mrs Trump will be in the United Kingdom for four days in total.

Despite not being an official state visit, the Government is desperate to ensure the U.S. leader feels he is being treated with the appropriate level of pomp and ceremony.

Other protests - including several "family friendly" gatherings - will take place at every place he will visit over the coming days. However, he will take tea with the queen.

May is hoping that Trump's trip will create closer ties and help forge a future free trade deal for once Britain leaves the EU.

"And I said Putin may be the easiest of them all", he continued.

Over a lunch of Dover sole, lamb and lemon meringue pie, the leaders will discuss Russian Federation, trade, Brexit and the Middle East.
