Fortnite Season 5 arrives with desert, rifts and new vehicle

The biggest changes are to the Fortnite map. It'll drift, granting you a speed boost, and players can use the roof as a bounce pad. There are also mysterious new "Rifts" appearing around the map, which could act as teleporters to let you jump around the map. You'll still need to complete four weekly challenges to unlock the reward, but at least free players will have more benchmarks to set for themselves.

While we've not yet been able to see the updates to the Fortnite map, we do know from these patch notes that there's a new map biome type that's a desert, and there are two new areas present, one called Paradise Palms, and one called Lazy Links.

There's a lot more to explore in the latest Season 5 update and you can check out the full patch notes here. "Test your courage and step through a Rift", says Epic.

As you might imagine, it's not all new features for both Fortnite Battle Royale and Fortnite Save the World players but also a number of bug fixes as with every week. Polygon speculates that it might even transport players to an entirely different map.

Croatia into the World Cup Final!
I think knockout football is about fine margins and when you have good spells against fine sides you need to take your chances. Italy striker Mario Balotelli has hit back at England fans who taunted him before they were eliminated from the World Cup .

It's equally unclear when these new items could go live in the game, but it's likely going to be spread out over the next few days and possibly weeks, both as items you can obtain from the shop and those perhaps higher up the new Season 5 Battle Pass.

The endgame will behave a bit differently now, as well, as the center of storm circles seven, eight, and nine can now shift in random directions. If you had the Season 4 Battle Pass you'll get some free levels on this one to kick start your progress, but there's also a change this time to how challenges are handled. The heavy shotgun now fires 10 pellets instead of 5, but the maximum damage of the weapon has been unchanged.

In 50v50 or 20v20 modes, you'll now get bonus XP up to three times per match for reviving teammates.

For Switch players, V5 adds gyro motion control options to the game. At this point, we really don't know what to expect.
