Divers enter cave to bring out last trapped group

British divers found them last week.

Four boys and the coach are still trapped deep inside, and authorities have indicated they're continuing with their so-far successful effort to bring the boys out guided by experienced divers.

Rescue mission chief and former governor of the Chiang Rai province Narongsak Osottanakorn said the boys were not being named out of respect for the families who still had sons trapped in the cave.

Chiang Rai Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn says the rescue mission began at 10.08am and involves 19 divers. The remaining four boys and coach were brought to safety Tuesday morning as part of a third day of rescue operations.

Officials were not immediately available to comment on who had been brought out, and their condition was unclear.

A witness near the cave told the Reuters news agency that medical workers carried four people to emergency rescue vehicles.

If all goes according to plan, the remaining boys, their coach, and the doctor and Navy SEAL divers who have been with them in the cave will be brought out today.

Rescue efforts bore fruit on Sunday as four of the children were pulled from the ordeal, while an additional four were added to the rescue tally on Monday.

Parents of the first four boys freed on Sunday have been able to visit them, but had to wear protective suits and stand two metres away as a precaution.

Concerns abounded that they could have resorted to contaminated water or been exposed to bird or bat droppings common in the cave. Their body temperatures were very low when they emerged, and two are suspected of having lung inflammation.

As of 2:40 p.m. local time, the rescue has been underway for over 4 hours and nobody has been seen yet leaving the cave.

The mission which started Sunday is a race against the clock with heavy rain expected this week which would again flood the tunnels with fast-flowing, rising water.

"Today (Tuesday) we hope to be faster", Narongsak added, of the complex and risky operation that involves diving through narrow, flooded chambers.

A crack team of foreign divers and Thai Navy SEALS has been guiding the boys out through almost 4 km (2.5 miles) of sometimes submerged, pitch-dark channels.

The Wild Boars were offered free tickets to the FIFA World Cup final in Russian Federation on Sunday, but unfortunately they will still be under observation in hospital and are unable to attend. Other divers were on guard along the unsafe first kilometer of the passageway.

The eight boys rescued from a flooded cave in northern Thailand are in "high spirits" and have strong immune systems because they are soccer players, a senior health official said Tuesday, as rescuers prepared for a third push to rescue five still deep in the cave.

Classmates of the trapped boys at Mae Sai Prasitsart school, close to the caves, pray after their teacher announced that more of the footballers had been rescued. Last week, Musk sent engineers from two of his companies, SpaceX and Boring Co., to assist Thai officials in the rescue effort, which comprises a large team of global diving, engineering and medical experts, among other professionals.
