Barcelona announce Paulinho sale to Guangzhou Evergrande

Speaking after playing in Brazil's 2-1 World Cup quarter-final defeat to Belgium, Paulinho acknowledged he has offers on the table as he plots his next move.

At worldwide level, Paulinho has made 55 appearances for Brazil, scoring 13 goals.

Nevertheless, there has been some surprise at the speed of the deal, which was confirmed late on Sunday.

But in the latter stages of the season, Paulinho lost his momentum but nonetheless, was effective coming off the bench.

There have even been calls for Modric to win the Ballon d'Or award, given to the best player in a calendar year. Now they are looking to go one step further, but just getting this far is a source of great pride for Croatia.

The official statement from Barcelona then went on to thank the Brazilian for his brief but successful spell with the club: "Barca publicly expresses its gratitude to Paulinho for his commitment and dedication and wishes him luck and success in the future".

The loan deal is understood to contain an option to buy at the end of the campaign, reportedly for around £44m.

"The level of the Super League has improved year by year and the development prospects are very good", Paulinho told Guangzhou's website. "I also hope to give the Super League more excitement". Guangzhou's hopes of winning an eighth consecutive title will be boosted by Paulinho's return, with Fabio Cannavaro's side sitting fifth in the table after 11 games, five points off top spot.

The CSL has had two months off for an extended summer break and games begin on July 17.
