The full tale of the tape for Tiger Woods versus Phil Mickelson

Golf Magazine reports the two, once enemies and now friends, almost played the "giggle golf" game on July 3, but negotiations for the match (and its accompanying prime-time special), couldn't be completed in that time.

As we daydream about this match actually happening, it's time for a refresher course on what these two have accomplished.

"We're working on a different date", Mickelson said Thursday. I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round.

Woods' reps have declined to comment on the possible event but the golfer said in May that he is "definitely not against that", Golf.com reported. There was the practice round ahead of the Masters in April, when Woods and Mickelson teamed up to beat Fred Couples and Thomas Pieters over nine holes that Couples described as "very loud, very fun".

According to a report from Golf.com, Mickelson floated the idea of playing a "high-stakes, winner-take-all match" to Woods when they were paired together at the Players Championship. The pair have a "shared vision" to play a few exhibition matches a year, around the world.

Tropical Storm Chris to bring showers
The tropical storm watch for Barbados has been discontinued as Beryl "no longer poses a direct threat". At 6pm today, Chris was 571 miles west of Bermuda, with winds of about 52mph and higher gusts.

Mickelson playfully hinted at such a match when he and Woods were in the same group at The Players Championship. News broke Friday that the two are in the works on playing each other for $10 million dollar victor takes all exhibition. Mickelson has openly said that the two probably should have always gotten along this well, but they've "turned the corner". There's even the possibility that it becomes something other golfers can get involved in as a kind-of informal tournament or league.

Back at the Players, after he proposed the match, Mickelson wondered whether Woods "wants a piece of me".

The interaction between Woods and Mickelson, captured on microphones, would be part of the attraction. One thing is for sure though, once this marquee match between two long-time heated rivals is set, it will be must-watch entertainment.

"We're at the tail end of our careers [and] we both know that".

"We'll play for whatever makes him comfortable", Woods, whose net worth is estimated to be in excess $740 million, also said.
