T20I Tri-Series final: Australia set Pakistan 184-run target

After Australia won the toss and elected to bat first, they got off to a great start.

Australia eventually posted 183/8 in 20 overs.

Playing his first innings of the series, Nic Maddinson (5) was stumped off the bowling of Shadab Khan, before Shaheen bowlded D'Arcy Short (28) to end his tortured 34-ball stay. Mohammad Amir was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with figures of 3/33. His departure brought Shoaib Malik in the middle and the two then put a partnership of 107 runs for the fourth wicket.

Aaron Finch, Fakhar Zaman, and KL Rahul have overhauled the existing table-toppers to become the top-three batsmen in the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Players Rankings.

As Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed went in to shake hands with the Aussie players, Maxwell was captured on camera failing to meet the Pakistan skipper's extended hand.

Both teams have already qualified for Sunday's final.

1 - Sahibzada Farhan becomes the first player to be stumped off the first ball faced in global cricket.

Injure Babar Azam, Colin Munro, and Glenn Maxwell all moved down in the order.

Zaman shared in a century stand with Shoaib Malik as Pakistan recovered from an early wobble in their pursuit of Australia's 183 for 8, and Malik then showed all the experience of an 18-year global career to see his team home with an unbeaten 43.

Australia were in total control after Glenn Maxwell struck twice in the very first over of the innings and put Pakistan under vast pressure. Australia kept the same side that delivered comfortable wins over Pakistan and Zimbabwe to be the first team to reach the decider. In that same period, they have beaten England in England, West Indies both home (twice) and away, beat Sri Lanka, Scotland (away), New Zealand (away) and the World XI.

Fakhar was the major beneficiary, flashing nine boundaries and a trio of sixes on the way to the highest score of his T20I career thus far - he is Pakistan's leading run-maker in this tournament by a distance, and will require far more careful planning by Australia's pacemen and coaches ahead of the decider. Before this, Wasim Akram's hat-trick at Sharjah in 1990 was the last time they did it. He broke his own previous record of 73, which he got in his previous T20I against Australia.
