Paul Manafort held in solitary confinement

Citing his Sixth Amendment right to trial by an impartial jury, Manafort's lawyers said in the motion on Friday that the trial should be moved from Alexandria, which is a short drive from Washington, to Roanoke, Virginia about 240 miles away.

While the senior executive is unnamed in this filing, in a previous court filing prosecutors identified Lender D as The Federal Savings Bank. John Dowd, former lawyer to President Trump, has called the imprisonment "harsh" and an "outrageous violation" of Manafort's civil liberties.

Manafort, according to his lawyer, is being secluded because correctional officials "cannot otherwise guarantee his safety".

Another reason Manafort's team pushes for the change is that "it is not a stretch to expect that voters who supported Secretary Clinton would be predisposed against Mr. Manafort or that voters who supported President Trump would be less inclined toward the Special Counsel". They asked for the trial to be relocated to the more sparsely populated city of Roanoke in southwest Virginia.

England make it to first semi-final in 28 years
We still know there's a big game ahead, we looked composed, like we controlled the game, we just have to go again. After the game, Harry Maguire said: "It was my first worldwide goal on the biggest stage of them all".

As for the start date, Manafort's attorneys say they've had difficulty preparing for trial since their client was sent to jail June 15 by a DC federal judge for alleged witness tampering. Three others - George Papadopoulos, Michael Flynn and Rick Gates - have pleaded guilty and agreed to co-operate with investigators.

"Mr. Manafort's current detention has made meetings with his attorneys to prepare his defense far more infrequent and enormously time-consuming", his lawyers wrote.

They added that it would be "difficult, if not impossible, to divorce the issues in this case from the political views of potential jurors".

Manafort's lawyer Kevin Downing said Manafort is being held for 23 hours a day because "the facility can not otherwise guarantee his safety" and complained he can not adequately prepare for his upcoming trial, which is slated for July 25.

His lawyers told Jackson that the evidence of witness tampering was thin, and complained that Mueller's office had ignored another federal judge's order to turn over a complete list of potential witnesses.
