Craig Dawson: West Brom defender hands in transfer request

Johnstone spent seven seasons at United, but never played a single minute for the Red Devils, instead being loaned out to a number of clubs, including Yeovil, Doncaster and Preston.

Manchester United have signed veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant from Stoke, the club have confirmed.

Reo-Coker moved from West Ham to Villa for £7.5million in 2007 and also spent a season at Bolton, making more than 200 Premier League appearances before having spells in Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps, Chivas USA and Montreal Impact and Norwegian side IK Start.

New manager Darren Moore is keen to keep the defender at The Hawthorns, but it is yet to be seen if Dawson will train with the remainder of the first-team squad when they return on Thursday. Johnstone impressed during two seasons on loan with West Brom's Midlands rivals Aston Villa, although the perilous financial state of the Villans ensures they weren't in any position to buy the player.

A statement on West Brom's official website read, "ALBION can today confirm the first of the summer transfer window's recruits - goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Manchester United".

"The 25-year-old Lancashire lad has joined for an undisclosed sum after signing a four-year deal with the Baggies".

Johnstone said: "I'm happy to be here". I've played Championship games and won a promotion from League One with Preston but always seemed to end up back at Manchester United or going somewhere else.
