Mexican leftist vows fiscal discipline, seeks friendly USA ties

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador could also end up proving a hard diplomatic partner for United States President Donald Trump with his vow to protect immigrants if his previous comments on the US President are anything to go by.

Exit polls Sunday evening showed Lopez Obrador had won by a large margin, and his rivals both conceded shortly after polls closed.

Lopez Obrador told the Televisa network Monday that he will respect the current team of negotiators, and let them continue representing Mexico until he takes office December 1, noting that he wants to have information on what's being discussed and "to help as much as we can". But Duncan also said that many people are unsure of how Lopez Obrador will be able to provide what he has promised.

Leftist candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador - a known opponent to Trump policies - is now slated to be headed for the win.

Lopez Obrador himself refused to accept his two previous presidential losses, and in 2006 his supporters set up a protest camp that caused months of chaos in downtown Mexico City. Newspaper El Financiero's exit poll gave him 49 percent of the vote to 27 percent for Anaya and 18 percent for Meade.

However, the current Mexico election has been marred by horrifying political violence.

"We represent the possibility of real change", he told hundreds of journalists crowded at the entrance, promising a "peaceful transformation" of the country.

Officials estimated voter turnout at 63 percent among the 89 million people who were eligible to vote in Mexico's biggest-ever elections.

Chelsea reject an offer from Barça for Willian
It is understood, United would be willing to offer even more to secure a player their manager Jose Mourinho rates highly. From past couple of weeks, the red half of Manchester was reportedly linked with Chelsea and Brazil winger Willian .

Three other states were too close to call, according to Mitofsky.

This is the first presidential election for Lopez Obrador's party, the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA), which has formed a coalition with the left-wing Labor Party and right-wing Social Encounter Party.

Lopez Obrador launched his campaign in Ciudad Juarez in tribute to its namesake Benito Juarez, a 19th century Mexican president whose exiled government resisted a French colonialist intervention from the unruly city that borders El Paso, Texas.

Many voters say they are sick of both the PRI and the PAN, the parties that have governed Mexico for almost a century.

A cover of his recent book features Mr Lopez Obrador pointing his finger, accompanied by the words "Listen, Trump!"

But Mexicans are deeply divided over the frontrunner. It is the party of current Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who has very low public approval ratings. It was the biggest share of the vote in a Mexican presidential election since the early 1980s and gave him a strong mandate to address Mexico's domestic problems and face external challenges such as USA tariffs.

"There is much to be done that will benefit both the United States and Mexico", Trump said. Trump's anti-immigration policies, his rhetoric about Mexican migrants and anti-trade stance have plunged ties between the U.S. and Mexico to a historic low.
