Blood moon is coming

Stargazers may be witness to another celestial event involving the moon: a blood moon, slated for the night of July 27 and 28.

Meanwhile, the January 31 sighting of a Super Blue Blood Moon and a total lunar eclipse occurred in India for the first time after 1982. Rather than the moon disappearing from view, as happens in a solar eclipse, skywatchers can expect to see it turn a rather sinister shade of crimson, which is why many call it a "blood moon". This was visible mostly in the U.S. and Canada, and only involved a full moon, which was the first of 2018.

The full moon gets its name from coinciding with the start of the strawberry picking season on the North American east coast.

Doomsday preachers have been reportedly suggesting that July's blood moon heralds the end of the world, as biblical passages talk about the moon turning the colour of blood prior to the apocalypse - and we have had several such events recently.

The eclipse on the night of July 27-28 will last a full 1 hour, 43 minutes. July's Blood Moon will last almost one hour and 43 minutes, and is being touted as the longest of this century. Those living in Europe and Africa will be able to see the eclipse during the evening while people in Asia and Australia can see it in the early hours of the morning.

Faherty tells us the next lunar eclipse that will be visible for NYC will be January 21st, 2019. For best visibility, it is suggested to view it from locations far away from urban settings, where the sky is the clearest.

Lewis Hamilton admits French GP pole lap far from ideal
Brendon Hartley will start the race from last place after Toro Rosso had to change his Honda engine on Friday. Ferrari and other rivals had an engine upgrade for that race and Mercedes did not.

The total eclipse will begin at 7:30 p.m. UTC, and end at 9:13 p.m. UTC.

What Is A Blood Moon?

"The moon is simply passing into the Earth's shadow".

Why Is This Particular Lunar Eclipse So Long?

The July 27 blood moon is expected to last beyond 100 minutes, and is expected to cast a larger shadow over the Earth than previously recorded moons.

Various Bible passages are cited to back this up, including one in the Book of Joel saying, ' The sun will turn into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and awful day of the Lord comes'.
