Will US-North Korea deal leave Japan, South Korea vulnerable?

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he expects North Korea to take the major steps toward nuclear disarmament during Donald Trump's first term, as the US president tweeted that there's "no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea".

"Everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office", Trump said on Twitter shortly after arriving back in Washington.

Pompeo also sought to blunt criticism that Trump gave away too much - including even holding the meeting with the North Korea leader and making a promise to end U.S.

USA forces in South Korea said they "received no updated guidance on the execution or cessation of training exercises". "No longer - sleep well tonight!" "You know, we're spending a fortune, every couple of months we're doing war games with South Korea, and I said, 'What's this costing?' We're flying planes in from Guam, we're bombing empty mountains for practice", Trump said.

"We are going to get out of the war games that cost so much money", he said referring to the USA participation in joint military exercises with South Korea.

The North Korean delegation comprises more than 100 people.

Asked whether he would invite Kim to the White House, Trump said: "Absolutely, I will". It's unclear whether the president informed US allies in the region of his plan to end the "war games", as he called them, prior to his declaration. Fears of conflict were particularly acute after Trump called Kim "Rocket Man" and Kim pledged to "tame the mentally deranged United States dotard with fire".

"All of that points to a new era of the relationship between the United States and North Korea", Tina Park, vice president of the NATO Association of Canada, told Global News.

Donald Trump reignites Opec spat over 'too high' oil prices
Unity within OPEC has been strained, as some members such as Iran have pumped greater supply into the market. After Trump tweeted his unhappiness with the price of oil in April, the price of oil fell .

Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera said Japan sees "US-South Korean joint exercises and the US military presence in South Korea as vital to security in East Asia".

Following the summit, Trump told reporters during a news conference in Singapore that Kim agreed to "destroying a major missile engine testing site" and that it would be done "very soon", without elaborating further on which testing site or timing.

Trump on Tuesday seemed fine with this, saying he thought Kim was being honest.

The issue of Japanese citizens who were abducted in the 1970s and 1980s to help Pyongyang train its spies has long soured already strained relations between Tokyo and Pyongyang.

As Mr Trump returned to the US, he tweeted that Pyongyang no longer posed a nuclear threat - despite critics saying the US President's comments were premature.

North Korea is believed to possess more than 50 nuclear warheads, with its atomic program spread across more than 100 sites constructed over decades to evade worldwide inspections. -South Korea military exercises, handing North Korea a win on one of its longtime policy goals.

"The problem with inter-Korean reconciliation projects is that sanctions will not be lifted if there's no implementation of denuclearization", said Shin Beomchul, senior fellow at Seoul's Asan Institute for Policy Studies think tank.

And after Trump made a fat joke and showed Kim the inside of his limo, they signed their "historish agreement", he said. Now, we're going to see.
