To give you a brief recap of what the other media around the world said, Washington Post reported that the summit was a huge success for the North Korean leader, saying that President Trump made huge concession to Kim.

The former Central Intelligence Agency director had flown to Seoul from Singapore, to give a "read-back" of the summit to his counterparts and to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, a key enabler of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un two days prior.

Mr Trump later said he would halt USA military exercises in South Korea, something widely seen as a concession.

"We believe that Kim Jog-un understands the urgency. that we must do this quickly", he said on Thursday of the effort to have North Korea abandon its nuclear weapons.

In turn, Trump has promised to halt joint military exercises with South Korea's forces.

South Korea's Blue House offered cautious assent to Trump's controversial statement Wednesday that the USA would halt "war games" on the Korean Peninsula, saying the suspension of joint military drills may be necessary to assist in denuclearization talks, according to Yonhap news agency.

Pompeo was speaking at a press conference in Seoul with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha.

"Each of those three countries has also acknowledged that it's important that the sanctions regime that is in place today remain in place until such time as that denuclearization is, in fact, complete", Pompeo told reporters Thursday in Beijing following talks with Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

North Korea is known to have hundreds of facilities related to the development of nuclear and chemical weapons, and advanced missile systems. Photos of Kim standing side-by-side with Trump on the world stage were splashed across newspapers.

Pompeo agreed, saying "We've seen power when China and the USA work together and don't treat the relationship as a zero sum". "One can't completely denuclearize without validating, authenticating", he said.

How anti-Trump hysteria helps the president on North Korea
The talks followed on from an inter-Korean summit in April at which Moon and Kim agreed to defuse tension and cease "hostile acts".

The summit in Singapore did mark a reduction in tensions - a sea change from last fall, when North Korea was conducting nuclear and missile tests and Trump and Kim were trading threats and insults that stoked fears of war.

"The world should rest assured the United States, Republic of Korea and Japan remain committed to achieve complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea", he said.

The presidential Blue House said it needed "to find out the precise meaning or intentions" of Mr Trump's statement, while adding that it was willing to "explore various measures to help the talks move forward more smoothly".

The conference comes days after President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un held a historic summit in Singapore. To an extent Trump has pushed Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un into each other's arms, but that's not necessarily the best way to go about things.

Sceptics of how much the meeting achieved pointed to the North Korean leadership's long-held view that nuclear weapons are a bulwark against what it fears are United States plans to overthrow it and unite the Korean peninsula.

Overall the South Korean foreign minister voiced strong support for the Trump-Kim declaration agreement, calling it a "historic turning point" toward peace that will bolster political momentum toward action. "No longer - sleep well tonight!"

Japan has reacted to Trump's plan to cancel military exercises with South Korea with concern, saying the drills were vital for east Asian security. Trump has labeled Trudeau "weak" and "dishonest" after the Canadian leader pushed back on US tariffs. But about 30 percent said they approved of his handling of North Korea.

"He (Trump) made it very clear that the condition precedent for the exercises not to proceed was for productive, good faith negotiations being ongoing", Pompeo told reporters.

In a further tweet on Wednesday, President Trump hit out at criticism of his summit in some United States media, dubbing it "Fake News". -South Korean exercises appeared off-limits under the new guidance.

The U.S. has stationed combat troops in South Korea since the end of the Korean War and has used them in a variety of drills.
