Massive Mate 20 Pro could have Samsung OLED display

Mate 20 is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2018 or the first quarter of 2019. The brand has ordered for flat panels and not curved ones.

A report from Korean news outlet The Bell (via Sammobile) says that Samsung Display is now in the process of producing huge 6.9-inch AMOLED panels for Huawei's next flagship smartphone, which is likely going to be the Mate 20. This isn't uncharted territory for Huawei, which is no stranger to oversize smartphones, or even tablets that are made to double as phones. But remains unclear what smartphone the company might come up with. We should be seeing more Mate 20 news in the middle of the year, as the launch date closes in. Also, it is expected to be 0.8 inches larger than the screen of the Huawei P20 Pro. Apple too is planning to opt for a big screen iPhone - allegedly called the iPhone X Plus - featuring a 6.5-inch OLED display.

Given the OLED nature of the panel and its size, it looks like the upcoming smartphone from Huawei will be a flagship device.

The president also commented on his relationship with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau , saying he was surprised by Mr. Trudeau's post-summit comments.

If the Mate 20 Pro gets a 6.9-inch screen that would make it about the size of a small tablet. In 2017, the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro arrived in October, suggesting we should expect the replacement phones to come around the same time this year.

The Mate 10 Pro also integrates an OLED display. The brief and ridiculous trend of tablets doubling as smartphones was short-lived, and anyone who handled Lenovo's enormous 6.98-inch Phab Plus will know this type of device isn't for those with dainty hands.

Claimed to boast a 6.9-inch display screen, Huawei's Mate 20 could be one of the largest phones released this year.
