Burger King renamed 'Pancake King' to mock IHOP

Burger King renamed 'Pancake King' to mock IHOP

IHOP, which teased a name change to IHOb earlier this month, says the "b" is to promote its burger menu.

Later Monday, Burger King also rolled out a new name: Pancake King.

Founded in 1958, the International House of Pancakes, better known as IHOP, has been the go-to spot for people looking for breakfast food regardless of what time of day it is.

The company known for breakfast already had burgers on the menu, but is adding a line made of Black Angus ground beef.

International House of Pancakes touts its burgers above its tabletop pancake syrup offerings at a Sunset Drive IHOP on June 12, 2018.

"We are definitely going to be IHOP", said the company's president, Darren Rebelez.

The name change has certainly garnered attention on social media, and seems to be working exactly how the company wanted. "But we want to convey that we are taking our burgers as seriously as our pancakes".

Confirmed: Harry and Meghan coming to NZ
The Duke of Edinburgh, who celebrates his 97th birthday on Sunday, has retired from official public duties and did not attend. Colours, or flags, were carried, or "trooped", down the rank so that they could be seen and recognised by the soldiers.

Others feel lost and betrayed, voicing concerns about whether IHOb is still selling pancakes and questioning why they felt the name change was necessary.

"I'm okay with the name change as long as you don't forget your roots", said another.

IHOP CMO Haley tells the New York Times' Jonah Engel Bromwich that the marketing idea had been proposed by Droga5 in November.

"Just because we have pancakes doesn't mean we can't do anything but pancakes".

The people at IHOP aren't promising a change in the name of the restaurant chain for good. According to reports, nearly 50 percent of the company's customers came in the morning.

"If somebody were to make a branded search during this campaign, does Google know where the nearest IHOb is located or is Google still ranking for IHOP?".

And we imaging the marketing team, in response, was slapping high fives.
