'Baby Daddy' Father's Day Card Does Not Go Over Well

Texas resident TaKeisha Saunders posted a picture of the card on Facebook a few weeks ago, writing that she did not feel that the card, which was intended for a husband, did not feature any terms of endearment.

One commenter pointed out that the inside of the card used the words "husband" and "father", and included a "Happy Father's Day" greeting. Takeisha Saunders wrote, sharing a photo of the card.

By June 12, other Target shoppers on social media claimed to have spotted the very same card at their local Target locations, with some echoing Saunders' sentiment that "Baby Daddy" is not a nice term. Baby daddies are often deadbeat fathers, as well, leaving mothers without financial assistance.

Target responded to customers' concerns in a Wednesday morning tweet, saying it never meant to offend shoppers.

The order is effective Friday for the Mountainair and Sandia districts, and in place June 22 for the Mount Taylor district. Per officials, the closure will remain in effect "until the forest receives sufficient moisture to improve conditions".

"We were made aware of some concerns about this card last week and are working with our vendor to have it removed from Target stores", said a spokesman for the retailer, which operates more than 1,800 stores nationwide. "It's never our intent to offend any of our guests with the products we sell".

Both Target and American Greetings have since apologized for the card.

In response to the online outrage, Target said it will pull the card from its shelves.

(See an image of the card here.) American Greetings responded, pointing to the loving inside message, addressed to "a wonderful husband and father". "I saw this card and was surprised and disappointed".

Target pulled a Father's Day card after a public outcry accused the item of being insensitive to African-Americans.
