India scientists in Ahmedabad discovers Neptune like planet: Watch here

A group of scientists working in the Physical research laboratory of Ahmedabad (PRL) has discovered a new planet. Indian scientists have found a sub-Saturn or super-Neptune-sized planet having a radius that is six times that of earth, Isro announced on Friday. It is closer to Neptune, he added.

That solar system, which orbits the star K2-239, is located about 160 lightyears away and can be found inside the constellation Sextans (the Sextant, naturally).

The gravitational pull caused by a planet on its host star makes it wobble around their common center of mass, which can be measured using high resolution spectrographs such as the PARAS. This has listed India among the countries which have discoveries of planets to their credit.

The other red dwarf star called K2-240 has two super-Earth-like planets about twice the size of our planet. The host star's name is EPIC 211945201 or K2-236.

ISRO website states that the 1.2 m InfraRed Telescope at Mount Abu is the first major facility in India that is specifically designed for ground-based infrared observations of celestial objects. Additionally, Kepler has revealed the existence of another 2,245 planets. This is what they have so far discovered.

Astronomers from the Spanish University of Oviedo according to the telescope "Kepler" has come to the conclusion that in space there are two new planetary systems and three earth-like planets. "Very few such spectrographs exist around the world (mostly in the U.S. and in the Europe) that can do such precise measurements", the space agency said on its website late on June 8. All these planets apparently do not reside in their stars' habitable zone as they are orbiting very close to their red dwarfs. PRL scientists, who observed the target for about 1.5 years with the spectrograph, made calculations which suggested that heavy elements like ice, silicates and iron content make 60%-70% of the total mass.

Paras spectrograph has also made independent measurements of the mass of the planet body as data from Nasa's K2 (Kepler2) photometry could not confirm the nature of the system.

The other system has two much larger planets.
