North Korea leader Kim arrives in Singapore ahead of Trump meeting

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of SC asked his Democratic colleagues Sunday to join him in supporting military force against North Korea if the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un doesn't end in an agreement.

He said on Thursday that he didn't think he had to prepare very much for the summit and that "it's about attitude".

Journalists wait for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un outside the Istana, or Presidential Palace, in Singapore, Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Asked by Stephanopolous whether Trump deserves credit for brokering the first meeting in recent history between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader, Menendez said he is anxious Trump "thinks this is a mano-a-mano engagement in which he can achieve the success we want".

The North Korean leader reportedly arrived at Changi Airport in Singapore Sunday afternoon, where he was met by the Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan. Kim arrived on an Air China jet, NPR's Elise Hu reports.

The running bodyguards of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which made an appearance for the first time during the inter-Korean summit in April this year are now back in action, this time in Singapore.

The aircraft carrying Kim and the North Korean delegation to the summit took a mostly inland route while flying over China, according to a flight tracking website.

Kim arrived in Singapore hours before Trump arrived in Air Force One.

The US wants North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons but it is not clear what Pyongyang might want in return.

KFC will test a vegetarian alternative in UK
The fast food giant is hoping to roll out the veggie option later this year, with plans to make it a staple of the menu by 2019. While the exact meat-free meals are unknown at this stage, they will be certain to utilise KFC's secret blend of 11 spices.

It initially was meant to rid the North of its weapons, to forge the "complete denuclearization" of the country. Mr Kim's sister, Ms Kim Yo Jong, who is part of his entourage in Singapore, will likely also be at the summit table.

US allies are anxious that Trump could upend decades of worldwide precedent, NPR's Mara Liasson reported on Weekend Edition Sunday.

"The entire world is watching the historic summit between [North Korea] and the United States of America, and thanks to your honest efforts ... we were able to complete the preparations for the historic summit", Kim told Lee through an interpreter.

He met Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to thank him for hosting the summit, adding: "If the summit becomes a success, the Singaporean efforts will go down in history".

Both North Korea and the United States have expressed expectations for the outcomes of their first summit meeting set to open in Singapore on Tuesday. "North Korea summit again", said Shim Nu-ri, a teacher who lives in Seoul.

At a press conference earlier on Sunday, Loong said that the summit cost approximately $20 million, which is a price the Singapore was "willing to pay".

With few sources of information other than the state-run media, gossip and word of mouth, most North Koreans are still largely in the dark about the momentous - and potentially life-changing - events that are about to take place outside of their isolated nation.

Another possibility from the summit is a possible deal to end the Korean War.

There are also signs that South Korea, China and Russian Federation are preparing to increase economic ties with North Korea, should a nuclear deal be reached.
