Kia recalls sedans, minivans for air bag flaw

NHTSA opened an investigation into the Hyundai-Kia air bag issue in March.

According to the report, the software that operates the sliding door has an error that could affect the function of the doors.

The recall covers 2010-2013 KIA Fortes, 2011-2012 Optimas and 2011-2012 Optima Hybrid and Sedona vehicles.

It was added that a few injuries caused by the issues have been reported.

A Hyundai spokesman says he's checking to see if his company has a recall.

The problem also impacted Hyundai, which is affiliated with Kia.

Xiaomi Redmi 6 launch set for June 12
Well, if that is your only priority, then save some money and look no further than what Xiaomi launched - Redmi Y2 - on 7 June. The Moto Z3 Play was launched yesterday and it is certainly a capable smartphone given its hardware specifications.

The safety agency also said that electrical overstress appeared to be the root cause in a 2016 recall by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV of 1.4 million US vehicles for air bag non-deployments in significant frontal crashes.

"Kia should have issued a recall well before today and probably right after its sister company, Hyundai, identified a similar defective airbag controller from the same supplier three months ago", Friedman added.

The agency says four crashes occurred in Sonatas and two happened in Fortes.

Kia said in the NHTSA release that it is still working on a remedy with the recall set to begin on July 27. Messages were Friday left seeking comment from NHTSA.

The air bag control units, which detect a crash and activate the air bags and seat belts, are made by ZF-TRW.
