UFC 225 main event in tatters as Yoel Romero misses weight... twice

The biggest story heading into the UFC 225 middleweight title fight between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero was whether the latter would be able to make the championship weight of 185 pounds. Romero was the last fighter to weigh-in Friday, and originally came in one pound over the championship fight limit of 185 pounds.

His first attempt was made at 186 pounds, and at his second attempt, he was still.2 pounds over the mark.

Romero was granted two hours to see if he could lose that last pound but did not show up until 10 minutes before the cut-off point.

But Whittaker has agreed to save the main event and face him in a non-title bout.

How to get help for someone who might be suicidal

Now fully healthy, Whittaker will be aiming to lift his professional MMA record to 20-4 with a second straight victory over Romero, the No. 1 contender in the UFC middleweight division. Whittaker, who is defending his belt, would be the only fighter capable of winning/retaining the title on the night if the fight goes ahead. "Why would I? I might as well fight someone heavier than me".

He struggled to take Whittaker down in their first fight, however, and the Australian is not expecting much to change. As you know, life isn't about winning and losing.

"But I tell you what, I've got a bag of new tricks that I'm looking forward to bringing out and throwing at him".

Holly Holm fights Megan Anderson in a bout that could determine women's featherweight champion Cris Cyborg's next opponent.
