Trump says United States not to endorse G7 communique

Bruising for a fight, President Donald Trump barreled into the Group of Seven summit Friday, confronting longtime USA allies over a burgeoning trade dispute and insisting Russian Federation should be brought back into the fold.

In a second tweet, Trump said that Trudeau acted "meek and mild" during the G7 summit and that the U.S. tariffs were in response to Canada's 270% tariff on dairy products.

Trump, who repeated that his tariffs are meant to protect US industry and workers from unfair global competition, said he had suggested to the other G7 leaders that all trade barriers, including tariffs and subsidies, be eliminated.

"For us, it was important to have a commitment to rules-based trade", Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel said, before Trump's comments.

The U.S. president left before the end of the summit and will fly to Singapore for a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, which he described as a "mission of peace". "He is not going to permit any show of weakness on the trip to negotiate with North Korea".

But she stressed there are many areas where Canada is working closely and effectively together. He ran against NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific trade deals. Morneau said progress is being made, but more work needs to be done to conclude the negotiations.

"I think we'll have a joint statement", Trump said.

He warned that retaliation against metal tariffs - 25 per cent on imports of steel and 10 per cent on aluminium from countries including the United Kingdom and the rest of the European Union - would be a mistake after previously calling the EU approach to business "brutal". Their leaders confronted Trump about how his protectionist policies had given them no choice but to retaliate with tariffs of their own, a person familiar with the encounter said. "And no subsidies. I even said, 'no tariffs!'" Trump insisted.

All major political parties say they support supply management because it stabilizes incomes for dairy farmers. "We're going to fix that situation". Canada is focused on maintaining a trilateral pact, the official said. The group of seven nations that make up the G7 are Canada, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Italy.

But after saying he would give his relationship with fellow world leaders 10 out of 10, Mr Trump hit out at his northern neighbour.

Netanyahu meets European resistance to Iran nuclear stance
Mr Netanyahu blamed Assad directly for allowing Iranian troops to become entrenched within Syria and in turn threaten Israel. President Trump announced the U.S would withdrew from the Iran Nuclear Accord just last month.

And he made clear that extends to the current deal the U.S.is renegotiating with its continental neighbours, Canada and Mexico.

"We win that war a thousand times out of a thousand", Trump said.

Trump said that would be a bad idea.

Vice President Mike Pence told Trudeau he would have to agree to that before Trump would agree to meet him.

Trudeau refused, and the meeting was off.

The topic of trade has held a shadow over the G7 meeting, which started Friday in Charlevoix, Que.

It was a "a long litany of recriminations, somewhat bitter reports that the United States was treated unfairly", said the French official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "I'm not looking to play that game".

But Trump's abbreviated stay at this Quebec resort saw him continuing the same type of tough talk on trade as when he departed the White House, when he accused Trudeau of being "indignant".

European Council President Donald Tusk expressed broad concern about Trump's opposition to the worldwide rules-based order, because it "is being challenged, quite surprisingly, not by the usual suspects but by its main architect and guarantor, the U.S".

And German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas tweeted Sunday that Trump had partly "destroyed" Washington's trusting relationship with Europe by pulling out of the joint communique.
