NBA Awards: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, James Harden Among Finalists

The final three are James harden of the Houston Rockets, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans.

LeBron James believes he should win the NBA MVP award this season.

Wednesday night before tip-off of game two of the Western Conference Finals, the National Basketball Association announced the three finalists for the league's highest individual honor.

Harden, who led the league in scoring, has twice been a runner-up for the award, including a year ago when Russell Westbrook won.

The finalists were based on voting results from a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

That's in addition to the combined 80-300 years he faces behind bars outside of the federal prison system. Several well-known sports figures in the United States have come forward as being victims of Nassar.

Davis pulled off what many thought was a miracle, dragging the Pelicans to the No. 6 seed in the playoffs despite a season-ending injury to running-mate DeMarcus Cousins.

James had arguably the most complete offensive season of his 15-year career, averaging 27.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game while shooting 54 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3 during a tumultuous season for the Cavs. Harden and James are now playing in their conference finals.

Anthony Davis is also up for defensive player of the year alongside Jazz bigman Rudy Gobert and 76ers centre Joel Embiid.

The two have formed a competitive rivalry in recent months as there will be particular intrigue with who wins the award this year, with Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum rounding out the three.

The winners will be announced after the season during the NBA's Season Awards Show on June 25.
