Celtics charge to 2-0 lead over Cavs

Wikimedia Commons/Keith AllisonTerry Rozier led the way with 14 points in the third quarter to spark a comeback for the Celtics, earning them a 2-0 lead in the ECF over the Cavaliers despite Lebron James' 42-point game.

Terry Rozier scored 18 points, Al Horford added 15 points and 10 boards, Marcus Morris had 12 points and both Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart contributed 11 for the Celtics, who were 108-83 winners Sunday in Game 1. Kevin Love was forced to defend the penetration, Cleveland missed a defensive rotation, and Baynes was able to finish a flawless lob to give Boston the lead. It was his 22nd triple-double and his 24th career playoff game with at least 40 points – and fifth this postseason. The Celtics have never blown a 2-0 series lead in the playoffs.

"We just play hard", Horford said. "That's the amusing part about it, because if Boston beats them, we all know he's gone".

For the Cavs though, no matter what James decides to do, the Cavaliers are actually in a good position, and Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com broke down the reasons why.

This week's NBA Conference Finals saw the Warriors beat the Rockets for the first game of their series to steal home court, despite a heroic effort from James Harden. "We're going to use these days to really dive in on what needs to be done to help our ballclub be successful". But at the same time, they now know precisely what they have to work with as they try to either put together a better roster around James or, if he leaves as a free agent, get the team back in shape quicker than when James left the first time in 2010.Citing the aggregate of mock draft boards out there, the Cavs generally agree that a player like Michael Porter Jr., the Missouri forward considered by many to be the top player in the 2018 draft until he hurt his back at the start of the season, could be there at No. 8.

Marcus Smart (36) of the Boston Celtics and JR Smith (5) of the Cleveland Cavaliers get into an altercation in the second half during Game Two of the 2018 NBA Eastern Conference Finals at TD Garden on May 15, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts. There were six turnovers in the fourth quarter.

Smart confronted Smith after the play, which not only got Horford fired up, but got Smart amped up and ignited an otherwise nervous crowd.

Horford's jump shot with 2:54 remaining pushed the Celtics' advantage to 103-89.

The Cavaliers led 55-48 at halftime.

The Cavaliers said James had a neck sprain.

"We will see what we are made of on Saturday". "We're just trying to get the win".

Cleveland Coach Tyronn Lue said they need to be more physical and referred to the Boston players as goons.

With this outcome, this is now the second time that the Celtics have held the Cavs to under 100, and they are doing it without Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward, as well.

Before the game, the Cavs landed this year's eighth overall pick as the National Basketball Association held its draft lottery.
