Juhu resident held for planning terror attacks

The man allegedly receved training in a terrorist camp in Pakistan and had returned to Mumbai with a plan to carry out attacks in the country.

After returning to India from Pakistan post a two-week training of handling weapons, IEDs and carrying out lone-wolf attacks, 32-year-old suspected terrorist Faisal Hasan Mirza was waiting for instructions from his handlers to execute tasks that were supposed to be assigned to him.

Informed ATS sources said here on Monday that Mirza, who was arrested by the city ATS sleuths in a a joint operation with Kolkata Special Task Force (STF), told the interrogators that he was waiting for "instructions" from his handlers overseas to undertake terror strikes in attacks in Mumbai, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

According to ATS officials, Mirza was in touch with fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel's alleged aide, Farooq Devadiwala, who is his relative.

The Delhi police informed the Maharashtra ATS after they getting a tip-off about the suspect from their Kolkata counterparts.

During interrogation, it was revealed that an accused in a terror-related case based outside Sharjah had arranged for him to travel there. He was arrested by the anti-terror agency's Juhu unit on May 11, had been to Pakistan, via Sharjah and Dubai, for training at a camp operated by a terror outfit. "He took a flight to Nairobi from Sharjah via Pakistan but nobody flagged it when he got down in Karachi during the transit halt", said Atulchandra Kulkarni, ATS Chief, Maharashtra.

The accused was used to target prominent personalities and places in India. It added that it was in Karachi where Mirza received training on how to operate firearms and make explosives. Devadiwala was Mirza's handler and the latter was awaiting orders from Devadiwala when apprehended, sources revealed.
