Danish director's film leads to walkouts, outrage at Cannes

Von Trier's new film, which stars Matt Dillon and Uma Thurman, follows the life of a serial killer in Washington over a period of a dozen years.

Director Lars von Trier has returned to the horror genre with a bang, as the trailer for his latest movie, "The House That Jack Built", shows off pure brutality. Featuring a ton of blood and graphic violence, uncomfortably set to David Bowie's "Fame", the trailer for "Jack" confirms von Trier is up to his usual polarizing tricks. After the director stated that the film would be his "most violent yet", it seemed he made good on his promise as the first trailer of the film did little to calm the nerves of audience members. Time and again we've heard about movies that have left audience members fainting in the aisles but have actually turned out to be considerably tamer than first believed.

This is a view that's summed up by Jack in the trailer: "Some people claim that the atrocities we commit in our fiction are those inner desires we can not commit in out controlled civilisation, so they are expressed instead through our art".

★★★★☆ In 2011 Lars von Trier was declared persona non grata at Cannes after saying that he "sympathised" with Hitler.

Samsung to launch new Series A and J smartphones
The Note 9 is also set to include the same stereo speakers used in the S9, which will also be an improvement from the Note 8. It could however make its introduction with the Galaxy S10 , allowing Samsung to forego the dedicated reader on the back.

I've never seen anything like this at a film festival. "The House That Jack Built" will be viewed by the press today. Plus, Dillon's flowery narration induced some slight eye-rolling. And I do like several of von Trier's films, including Antichrist and Melancholia.

There's no official USA release date yet, but IFC Films will distribute the film sometime this year. The film debuts out of competition on May 14.

"He mutilates Riley Keough, he mutilates children. and we are all there in formal dress expected to watch it?" another viewer told Vulture's Kyle Buchanan. He views each murder as an artwork in itself, even though his dysfunction gives him problems in the outside world. The goal is the ultimate artwork: A collection of all his killings manifested in a House that he builds. Let us know what you think.
