The funeral of Stephen Hawking invited time travelers

The world's most recognisable scientist died in March aged 76, after a lifetime spent probing the origins of the universe, the mysteries of black holes and the nature of time itself.

As per the reports, people from the future might see the memorial event and want to attend it, which is why organisers are accepting applications from the people born two decades after the actual event.

At the Seattle Science Festival in 2012, Hawking claimed to have the experimental evidence that time travel isn't possible.

The representative of the Fund Stephen Hawking on questions of journalists said that no one has yet proved that time travel is impossible.Hawking's ashes will be buried June 15 at Westminster Abbey in London.

Time travellers are welcome to attend Stephen Hawking's memorial service next month.

While he didn't really believe that we'll ever be able to master backwards time travel (as oppose to the relatively easy feat of forward time travel), he did once host a party for time travellers.

When those going onto the online memorial service ballot click on the date of birth section, a pop-up box allows people to put in dates from 2019 to 2038.

A spokesman for the foundation told the BBC that while applicants appear - so far - to be from the present day, 'we can not exclude the possibility of time travel as it has not been disproven to our satisfaction.

"I gave a party for time-travellers, but I didn't send out the invitations until after the party".

Prof Hawking's foundation said the possibility of time travel had not been disproven and could not be excluded.

John Hall, the Dean of Westminster, said: "The service of thanksgiving for the life and work of Stephen Hawking will celebrate not only his remarkable achievements as a scientist, but also his character and endurance through his years living with a devastating illness".

Hawking's funeral already took place back on March 31 in Cambridge, but now it's time for the final farewell - and interment of the ashes. Whether the time travel is possible or not, it would be better for the travelers from future to stay at home as it could "trigger a bolt of radiation that would destroy the spaceship", warned Hawking.

A public ballot offering tickets for the service to the public opened on May 9, run by the Stephen Hawking Foundation.
