President lauds nurses as 'nation builders'

The President said that International Nurses Day is an occasion for the entire nursing community to remember Florence Nightingale and renew their commitment to her ideals.

The RCN says there are 25,000 nurses from outside the European Union working for the NHS. "I think this is what exactly made Florence Nightingale - The Lady with the Lamp", remarked Nakhro encouraging the nurses to continue their good work in serving humanity. Each year, International Council of Nurses (ICN) prepares and distributes the International Nurses' Day Kit.

According to the public relations officer of the hospital, Mohammed Abubakar, "Nurses play a vital role in the lives of people, and for this reason, we are celebrating our nurses and other nurses around the world".

He further stated that at present, there are 1.7 nurses per 1,000 people in India, and the world average is 2.5 nurses.

PRESIDENT Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday, on International Nurses' Day, lauded the dedication and contribution of nurses to the nation and stressed on the need for strengthening the nursing sector. "But this number is not sufficient", Kovind said.

Making the State proud, a female health worker of Mudakhal village under Chitrangpalli panchayat of the district on Sunday received the Florence Nightingale Nurses Award-2018 at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

The awards are given to outstanding nursing personnel employed with the Centre, States or Union Territories.

The Governor also expressed his opinion that nurses have a great responsibility in protecting the health of the growing population as well as to contribute towards better healthcare and medical services.

Almost three quarters of adults think there are too few nurses to provide safe patient care, according to a YouGov poll. The award carries '50,000 cash, a certificate, a citation and a medal.
