Xi to Visit N.Korea in June

President Moon Jae-in reaffirmed his resolve Tuesday to establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, saying the denuclearization of North Korea is the most urgent task facing his country but is only part of an ultimate objective to ensure co-existence and co-prosperity of the divided Koreas.

Kim invited Xi when he visited Beijing last month.

The delegation of the Republic of Korea on March 5 met with the leader of the DPRK in Pyongyang.

Photos released by state media, as well as by tour companies that brought foreign tourists in for the holiday and a Spring Friendship Art Festival, showed no weapons but instead a weekend of performances, fireworks, dancing and sports.

Song led a Chinese troupe to North Korea for the festival.

Already China is weakening sanctions against its ally. And the South Korean government hopes the first inter-Korean summit on the South's side won't be the last.

President of the Australian Drug Law Reform Foundation Dr Alex Wodak welcomed the announcement. A national agency would be established to issue those licences and oversee regulations.

A successful Moon-Kim summit could help pave the way for the Trump-Kim meeting, which would be the first between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader.

The upcoming summit of the leaders of the two Koreas scheduled for April 27 is expected to be an overture to a possible meeting between Kim Jong-un and Donald Trump, Rhee Sang Hyong, a principal researcher at South Korea's Sejong Institute and President of the Korean Nuclear Policy Society, told TASS on Monday.

The two Koreas have yet to sign a peace treaty to replace the 1953 armistice that ended combat operations in the Korean war, with the U.S. and North Korea still at loggerheads after the three-year conflict ended.

The news outlet added that China will make a final decision after observing the results of the planned US-North summit. South Korea's Munhwa Ilbo newspaper reported on Tuesday that the two sides had been discussing plans for a permanent end to the war at the North-South summit, citing an unidentified South Korean official with knowledge of the matter.

Mr Moon hopes that his summit with Mr Kim can lay the foundation for a deal on denuclearisation between Washington and Pyongyang at the following summit between Mr Kim and United States president Donald Trump in May or early June.

The Munha Ilbo report said one possible way of ending the conflict could involve reverting the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone that bisects the two Koreas to its original state.
