Netflix Orders Vampire Drama 'V-Wars' to Series, Ian Somerhalder to Star

Having spent years playing a fang club member on TV's The Vampire Diaries, you might expect Ian Somerhalder to be on the look out for something that doesn't include creatures of the night. Swann gets introduced to the horrific world of the vampiric when his best friend, Michael Fayne, succumbs to the disease, turning into a vampire and feeding on the blood of others. As Swann watches Fayne become an underground leader of the vampires, he's forced to choose between his allegiance to his friend and, ya know, safety.

It is unclear when the show will air, but news of the actor's casting comes over a year after he ended his eight-year run on The Vampire Diaries in March 2017.

The streaming giant has given the drama series a 10-episode first season order.

No word yet on when Somerhalder's series will hit the 'Flix, but we're readying our wooden stakes just in case.

High Park Entertainment will produce "V-Wars" along with IDW Entertainment, with IDW also set to distribute the series worldwide (excluding Canada). The mysterious illness transforms Michael and begins to spread, splitting society up into factions as uninfected people begin to fight back against the new vampire threat. "We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide".

V-Wars arrives as Netflix continues to spend an estimated $8 billion annually on original programming. He now has a pod deal with TVD producers Warner Bros. Brad Turner of Stargate and Stargate Atlantis will direct and executive produce. Television with actress Nikki Reed, his wife, via their Rare Bird Productions banner. More recently, he played a regular role on The CW's horror drama The Vampire Series.
