Delhi HC directs Airtel to modify IPL ads

Airtel is giving 1GB free data everyday for 30 days to its prepaid customers.

Airtel clients as of now using a 2G or 3G Smartphone will be qualified with the expectation of complementary data benefit of 30GB when they move up to a 4G Smartphone.

In terms of data usage, the new prepaid plan of Airtel offers 164GB total data.

Representing Airtel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar submitted that Reliance Jio is a jealous competitor and elaborated that "free access" mentioned in the advertisement meant free subscription of HOTSTAR network. Airtel postpaid customers will get 30GB additional free data with rollover facility in their first bill cycle. For availing this offer, Airtel customers having 2G/3G mobile need to upgrade them to 4G smartphone besides being on the company's network.

Airtel is already running its "Mera Pehla Smartphone" initiative, under which company is joining hands with multiple mobile makers to offer 4G experience on affordable 4G smartphones.

Airtel has assured the Delhi High Court that its latest advertisements, offering "live and free access" to the IPL coverage, would include a bold disclaimer that only subscription to video streaming platform Hotstar would be free and data charges according to the subscriber's plan would apply.

In comparison, Reliance Jio is providing 2GB data per day, unlimited voice calls, free roaming, 100 SMSs free per day and access to Jio apps at Rs 198, with a validity of 28 days. Once this is done, you will get your free 30 GB of data within 24 hours.

"We believe this will help millions of our customers to fulfil their aspiration of owning a 4G smartphone by making the transition more rewarding", Vani Venkatesh added".

Telecom operators like Jio and Airtel have launched a plethora of campaigns to boost their sales and increase their brand value.
