200-Million Egg Recall in 9 States Prompted by Salmonella Outbreak

Over 200 million eggs produced by the farm are potentially contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children.

In an announcement posted to its website on Friday, the FDA reported that Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana, recalled the eggs distributed from the farm in Hyde County, North Carolina.

The farm produces 2.3 million eggs a day.

Eggs from the Rose Acre Farms facility in Hyde County, N.C., went to nine states including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida.

According to the Food Safety News website, the recall marks the largest such pulling of eggs from the market in the U.S. since 2010. Also, healthy individuals infected with Salmonella Braenderup can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

More than 200 million eggs are being voluntarily recalled by an IN company over fears of salmonella.

The Belgium global reportedly left the Veltins Arena on crutches. Coach Domenico Tedesco celebrated with fans in the stands.

The egg cartons affected by the recall should be labeled with the plant number P-1065, with packing dates ranging from 011 through 102. The step was taken after 22 reported cases of salmonella infections were reported.

"Consumers with these eggs shouldn't eat them", FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Sunday in a Twitter message.

Consumers who purchased the recalled eggs are urged to stop using the eggs and to return them for a full refund.

The eggs were sold through retail stores and restaurants. The recall is equivalent to nearly 10 days production at the farm, which produces 2.3 million eggs a day. "FDA investigators then inspected the farm and collected samples for testing".

The 53 items affected by the recall include brands like Country Daybreak, Coburn Farms, Crystal Farms, Sunshine Farms and Glenview, with some eggs sold at Food Lion stores, CNN said.
