The Flash season 4 episode 16 review: Run, Iris, Run

She's even got Barry's nervous babbling thing!

Portraying Iris as a superhero - albeit fleetingly - was something of a bucket list moment for Patton, but she's satisfied that it only lasted for an episode.

"I mean, there is no school for acting in front of a green screen, not that I'm aware of" she said. Still, it can't be ruled out that she'll acquire powers of her own on a more permanent basis down the road, but it's for the best we not get too ahead of ourselves. For starters, the evolution of Harry that kicked off two weeks ago really gained steam here, and I love the obsessive drive that we're getting from him now.

What I seriously didn't expect was for this season to be broken up into so many distinct 'acts.' The early part of the season was mostly standalone, villain-of-the-week heavy, and went super hard on the humour. "I don't think we've ever seen two women without superpowers fight, like hand-to-hand combat". Iris is a journalist, and I don't know how that's going to shape up on the show, but I do know we want to have her back on her job in some capacity. We've got enough superheroes, and that's just not who Iris is.

Originally called "The Streak Lives", Iris' blog was something Iris created back in the show's first season to document appearances of the then-mysterious speedster.

There were lots of little touches, too. The hit DC comic book series will feature an interesting development as the titular character, Barry Allen/The Flash (Grant Gustin) will lose his power to his own wife, Iris West (Candice Patton).

Will Iris prove to be a worthy speedster? I thought I heard it when she was working on the treadmill. "It was great. I'm so grateful that I got to do that". But that's not just about calling the shots on a mission, it's about knowing when to lift up someone who's dragging. I don't know if I could see Barry or Cisco or anyone else handling that situation in quite the same way.

And while Iris had fun and challenging stint putting on a costume and zipping around Central City at super-speed - even creating a tidal wave, something Barry hadn't yet done - for Patton, it was a bit of a mixed experience being more heavily involved in the visual effects side of The Flash. It's her real superpower.

CW's The Flash has been subtly throwing a mystery toward fans.
