Google Assistant Now Available on iPads

The Google Assistant iPad app is a tablet-specific version with support for a larger screen, as well as support for portrait and landscape mode.

As you can see in the header image above, with iOS 11, iPad owners can multitask pretty well with an Assistant panel open alongside other apps. At last year's WWDC, Apple showed off upgraded iPads, the HomePod speaker, new Macs, and software-based enhancements for iPhones and Macs.

Google Assistant supports multitasking on the iPad. For instance, you can pull Google Assistant up as you work on something in another app or play a game. Once you're in the app, Google Assistant has most of the functionality you're used to on other platforms, whether its controlling home automation systems through voice commands, scheduling reminders, or composing text messages.

Google Assistant for iOS is not the same as in Android due to API restrictions. Most of the time, the Assistant gives me something from the web, á la Siri, but instead of giving me the oft-repeated and annoying line "Here's what I found on the web for.", the Assistant gives me the result in a similar manner to the Top Stories feature on Google Search.

Google has started rolling out Assistant for iPad and it will be available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil) and Spanish languages. Microsoft released an iPad-optimized version of Cortana last month, after Amazon's Alexa ranked third overall in iPad App Store downloads during the 2017 holiday season.
