Delhi Trade Bandh: Shops shut down to protest sealing

Kejriwal had yesterday written to Maken and Tiwari, inviting them for the meeting at his residence on Tuesday, saying, "We should rise above politics and come together to find a solution to the problems that have risen due to sealing".

On a day when thousands of shops across the city were shut to protest against an ongoing sealing drive in the city, AAP and Congress said that an all-party delegation will meet a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee to find a solution to the drive.

Maken said the Delhi government has not met the Monitoring Committee since the sealing drive began and added that Kejriwal has also agreed for a meeting with the parliamentary panel. We will go to the monitoring committee to discuss MPD, its interpretation, and sealing.

Replying to the tweet, Kejriwal wrote, "I urge u to kindly raise sealing issue strongly in current session of Parliament and force BJP to take all steps necessary to stop sealing n open sealed shops".

Delhi BJP general secretary Ravinder Gupta said the party would not attend the meeting, adding that after the incident at the CMs residence on January 30, where a delegation of saffron party was "misbehaved with", it was proved that the AAP does not believe in a "political dialogue".

Both leaders said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress MPs will also raise the issue in Parliament.

However, after the meeting both Congress and AAP leaders struck a different chord.

While Kejriwal "missed" BJP in the meeting, AAP and Congress attacked BJP for missing an opportunity to "speak for the traders". Over seven lakh traders would be participating in the protest, said the statement issued by CAIT. "We have told them that for each area, the MPD and the existing law has a solution and therefore the ongoing sealing is illegal", Maken said. The meeting lasted nearly for an hour and was fruitful, Maken said. "The government must make a submission properly in the court with conviction", Maken said.

The sealing drive was undertaken by the municipal corporations of the national capital on the directions of a Supreme Court-appointed committee in December a year ago. The chief secretary Prakash was allegedly assaulted by AAP MLAs during a meeting at the chief minister Kejriwal's residence in the evening of February 19.

Municipal Corporations are carrying out the drive under the directions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee.
