Addressing a rally in poll-bound state, Gandhi said that even students in party's bastion Gujarat have to depend on private institutions for quality education. "Major universities and colleges in Gujarat are backed by private industrialists", said Gandhi.

He then applauded state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for waving off loans worth "Rs. 8000 crores". He referred to farm loan waiver to the tune of Rs.8,000 crores and also provision of Rs.27,000 crore interest free loan of Rs.three lakh per farmer during the last five years. The Congress today demanded a thorough probe by the RBI into the alleged Rs 11,400-crore PNB scam and said the prime minister should fix accountability for the financial frauds plaguing the banking sector.
