Man jumps into lioness' cage at Thiruvananthapuram zoo

In a shocking incident, a young man from Ottappalam jumped into a lion's enclosure at the Thiruvananthapuram zoo on Wednesday at around 11 in the morning.

Murugan, who was precariously rescued by zoo guards who managed to divert the lion's attention, reportedly claimed that he meant to have a "friendly chat" with the lioness.

When a nearby guard spotted Murugan on his way to the lion's den, he was happily waving at fellow zoo visitors.

A man in a blue shirt is on all fours, and purposefully moving towards the corner of the woods that he's in - not just any woods, but a lion's enclosure in a zoo.

Even though 33-year-old Murukan Thonippadath provoked the lion, the staff's timely intervention saved him. Within seconds, four other men in uniforms come to help him and carry Murugan to safety.

Trump Has Some Wild Theories About Arming Teachers and Movie Violence
The students organizing to end gun violence and the educators who are joining them have committed to a more peaceful world. Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, told CNN's Anderson Cooper that arming teachers "is a recipe for disaster".

Reports say Murugan was reported missing by his family, who had recently put out advertisements in local newspapers.

The stubbornly suicidal man had to be whisked away from the den by the staff at the TVPM zoo.

He said: "We have put up a 5 foot iron fence to ensure the safety of the visitors". He climbed up the barbed fence and jumped over the short wall and the moat towards two-year-old lion Gracy.

Police said no charges would be brought against Mr Thonipaddath and he had been taken to the general hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking to TNM, a Sub-Inspector at Museum station said that Murugan was suffering from a mental illness and that he had gone missing from Ottapalam a few days ago.
