Congress wins Rajasthan by-polls; Rahul lauds state unit

Congratulating the Congress Party for winning the Mandalgarh Assembly seat, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Thursday vowed to continue working for the welfare of the people.

The Congress has snatched over three lakh votes from the BJP in two Lok Sabha constituencies of Rajasthan in less than 1,300 days, encouraging the Opposition party's leaders to chant: " Pehle Rajasthan, uske baad Hindustan". Proud of each and every one of your. "The Congress has a substantial organizational network in the state and the upcoming assembly elections will be a challenge for the BJP", said a senior BJP leader on the results, on condition of anonymity.

Congress candidate Vivek Dhakad won the Mandalgarh Assembly seat, defeating his nearest BJP rival Shakti Singh Hada by almost 13,000 votes. Happy with the success, Pilot is now looking forward to re-capturing Rajasthan from the virulent BJP rule in the Assembly polls due later this year.

In this East Indian State, the main challenger to the Trinamool Congress was the BJP. In Ajmer, Congress' Raghu Sharma was maintaining a lead of 23,882 votes over BJP candidate Ram Swaroop Lamba. Incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC) won both seats by substantial margins. Singh received 1,11,729 votes, while CPIM's Gargi Chaterjee secured 35,497 votes, BJP's Sandip Banerjee 38,711 votes and Congress's Goutam Bose 10,527, reported News18.

Protect Mueller from Trump's pique
Trump's strategy, NBC's Howard Fineman reports, "is to discredit the investigation and the FBI without officially removing the leadership".

There is little time for the BJP to take corrective action in the state, which heads to the polls later this year.

The Gujarati asmitha that helped BJP in the second phase of the Gujarat polls will not be a factor in Rajasthan. Hundreds of Congress activists burst firecrackers and danced to drum beats outside the party office here as its candidate Vivek Dhakar trounced Bharatiya Janata Party's Shakti Singh Hada by 12,976 votes. The byelection results suggest the key to doing so lies in encouraging a youthful regional leadership to emerge in each State. The Congress has sketched a strategy to corner Raje government on all fronts including BJP's debacle in Ajmer, Alwar and Mandalgarh bypolls which its termed a mandate against the policies of the government.

Rajasthan bypolls+ have rung the alarming bells for ruling BJP, both at the Centre and in the state. Citing trends from 17 Assembly seats, the poll pundit said that Congress would manage to swing 119 seats in its favor, while the BJP would lose 109.
