Instagram to Finally Allow Users to Schedule Posts

Unfortunately, smaller businesses that don't use such software will get left behind the larger corporations when it comes to scheduling Instagram posts and that's the real gotcha with this novel API update.

The San Francisco-based social media icon/Facebook division announced on Tuesday that it had added new features to its Instagram Graph API (application programming interface) to help businesses more effectively manage their social media content, including the ability for businesses to schedule posts, view posts they have been tagged in, and view other business profiles.

Social media management platform Hootsuite has announced a deeper integration with Instagram, providing Hootsuite customers direct scheduling and publishing on Instagram through the Hootsuite dashboard. Previously, there has been software that allows you to plan out a post and then send you a reminder at a specific time for you to share the prepared post yourself.

Scheduled posting so-far only works for photos, not videos.

"The scheduling and publishing of Instagram content has been the number one request for our 16 million customers", said Hootsuite CEO Ryan Holmes, in a statement. Now, they can manage large volumes of content, multiple team members and multiple Instagram accounts easily and security. Though the feature is limited to business profiles for now, Instagram says that the update will make its way to regular profiles by early 2019.

Are you large business that's striving to become even bigger on Instagram? The old API is being replaced by the newer Instagram Graph API, which also includes the ability to analyze metrics and insights about the business's performance on Instagram, moderate comments. After years of users asking for this feature, the announcement was finally made today on Instagram's business blog.
