Sock qualifies for ATP Tour Finals by clinching Paris Masters title

Qualifier Filip Krajinovic couldn't end his magical run at the 2017 Rolex Paris Masters with another upset, as he fell to America's Jack Sock in three sets in the final.

The Nebraska native is also the first from the United States to prevail in Paris since Andre Agassi in 1999. It sends him through to the finals in London for the first time.

The top-spin on Sock's forehand was causing all sorts of problems, helping secure a double-break as he looked set to take the match to a decider.

"Incredible week. Hard to describe honestly". I don't think it's really hit or soaked in yet.

He sealed victory on his first match point when Krajinovic, a Serbian qualifier ranked No. 77, sent a backhand long. "I was able to find that groove in the second and third (sets) and kind of turn things around".

Krajinovic showcased the game that took him to the brink of becoming the first qualifier to win a Masters title since Albert Portas in 2001, but ultimately he failed to become only the second Serb after Novak Djokovic to triumph at this level. It wasn't in my head. And I'm sad I didn't finish it stronger but that's tennis.

With a wry smile, Sock said he would be celebrating the biggest win of his career with "just a water on the rocks".

Krajinovic, playing in only his fifth Masters 1000 appearance, opened the match on serve in composed fashion with both players producing high-quality tennis highlighted by a well-executed drop shot from the Serbian to claim the opening game.

"I was not aggressive enough".

"This was the best week in my life", Krajinovic said. "He started to play better and better and I didn't serve well".

But at least he has the consolation in knowing that he has climbed to a world ranking of 33.

"It's an awesome week with a lot of good wins".

"From (qualifying) I beat so many good guys, better ranking than me", he said. He took it when Sock went for a typical cross-court victor on a forehand and whipped his shot into the net. "I feel very comfortable on court, confident in my game and I have got nothing to lose so I am going to go out and swing big and play my tennis".

The 16th seed had a spring in his step as he unleashed a barrage of ferocious forehands and was sensing victory after breaking to lead 2-1 following a couple of sublime winners on the run.

Sock immediately hit back as Krajinovic, also 25, produced a sloppy game, finished off with a wild forehand into the tramlines. He was broken again when he served to stay in the match.

A running backhand victor down-the-line, with the ball diving to his shoelaces gave him a break point at one-all.

"It's a good Sunday for sure", Sock said.
